Ministry of Culture: Exposition of Sacred Relics in Thailand

Nearly 1 lakh devotees paid obeisance to the Sacred Relics at the pagoda in Sanam Luang Pavilion in Bangkok on Makha Bucha.
People from Thailand flocked to Bangkok to witness the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha and His two Disciples brought from India by a delegation led by the Governor of Bihar and the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The relics, including those of Lord Buddha and his disciples, were enshrined in a specially built Pagoda at Sanam Luang Pavilion.
The relics will be displayed at various venues across Thailand before being escorted back on 19th March 2024.

Ministry of Information & Broadcasting: Setting up of Film Certification Facilitation Office

Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, announced the setting up of a regional facilitation office of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in Chandigarh.
The office aims to promote ease of doing business for filmmakers in the region, especially benefiting the Punjabi film industry.
Filmmakers will have access to screening their films and submitting cuts/modifications without needing to travel to Delhi or Mumbai for CBFC certification.
The move is part of India's positioning as a content hub, attracting international filmmakers for shooting and post-production.
The government is working on guidelines to make film halls more accessible for individuals with hearing and visual impairments, aligning with PM Modi's vision of equal opportunities for all citizens.
Efforts have been made to prevent film piracy with the appointment of special nodal officers at CBFC centers across the country to curb piracy within 48 hours of receiving complaints.
Piracy currently causes an annual loss of Rs 20,000 crore to the film industry.

Ministry of Power: Deployment of Battery Energy Storage Systems

The Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy chaired a meeting to finalize mechanisms for deploying Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for Round-the-Clock Renewable Energy.
A scheme for Viability Gap Funding (VGF) has been structured for developing BESS with a capacity of 4,000 Megawatt-hours (MWh).
The Minister emphasized the need to build adequate BESS capacity to ensure round-the-clock renewable energy supply.
The government aims to encourage setting up BESS capacity to meet the growing power demand and facilitate energy transition.
BESS will help store excess energy from solar and wind sources for use during peak demand periods, stabilizing the grid and reducing carbon emissions.
Models for procuring BESS, such as energy contracts and capacity contracts, were discussed, along with potential sites rich in renewable energy for BESS installations.
Expected benefits include reduced carbon emissions, lower energy storage costs, and prioritizing Discoms for power supply from VGF-funded BESS projects.
India embarks on large-scale BESS projects, with a 1000 MWh project marking the beginning of the journey in this sector.

Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment: Purple Fest Inauguration

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment is organizing a 'Purple Fest' at Amrit Udyaan in the Rashtrapati Bhawan on 26th February, 2024.
The event follows the success of the 'International Purple Fest, 2024' held in Goa in January 2024.
President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, will inaugurate the fest.

PM Inaugurates Sudarshan Setu in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Sudarshan Setu, a cable-stayed bridge connecting Okha mainland and Beyt Dwarka island in Gujarat.
The bridge is the longest of its kind in the country, spanning 2.32 km and constructed at a cost of around Rs. 980 crores.
Sudarshan Setu features a unique design with a footpath adorned with verses from Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and images of Bhagwan Krishna on both sides.
The bridge also has solar panels generating one megawatt of electricity on the upper sections of the footpath.
