CSIR-NIO Concludes Oceanographic Certificate Course

The CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) concluded a month-long certificate course in Oceanography.
The course aimed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among oceanographers and hydrographers, with delegates from Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Seychelles participating.
The course covered topics like marine biology, ocean chemistry, seafloor geology, marine instrumentation, and archaeology.
Participants were also taken to other ocean-related institutes in the state for interdisciplinary learning.
Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh, Director of CSIR-NIO, emphasized on strengthening bilateral partnerships among littoral nations in understanding the Indian Ocean Region.

40 bids were received in offline form for the mines offered under the 9th round.
The auctions were launched on December 20, 2023, for 32 coal mines.
The last date for bid submission was February 19, 2024.
A total of 33 bids were received under the 19th/9th tranche of auctions, with multiple bids for 8 coal mines and single bids for 5 coal mines.
7 bids were received under the 2nd Attempt of 17th/7th tranche of auction against 3 coal mines.
Online and offline bids will be opened on February 20, 2024, in the presence of bidders.

India is projected to have the third-largest construction market globally by 2025.
A National Workshop on recycling and utilizing C&D waste in the construction sector was inaugurated.
There is a need for efficient solutions to manage the estimated 150-500 million tonnes of C&D waste generated annually in India.
The government has been working on sustainable waste management, witnessing a rise in solid waste processing from 17% in 2014 to over 77% in 2024.
MoHUA has advised states and urban bodies to collect data on C&D waste generation, separate waste at the source, and establish mechanisms for waste collection.
The NCR region alone generates 6,303 TPD of C&D waste, with nearly 78% of it being processed daily.
The stakeholders are urged to collaborate with the government to devise better strategies for utilizing C&D waste effectively.
